The R & I Digital Photography Library

With the advancements in digital photographic equipment in recent decades, combined with such equipment becoming more affordable to the average home consumer, those with an interest in photography can become accomplished at it. Here in the R&I library you'll find articles and resources on various aspects of digital photography using DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras, from choosing a camera and lenses to fit both your needs and budget, to selecting subjects for your photographs, to techniques for image processing.

Unlike early photographers using the first film cameras, digital photographers today benefit from being able to almost immediately review images, which lends itself well to mastering basic photographic techniques. The time-consuming effort to process film and then review the results of a photography session is a thing of the past. In many cases, a photograph may now even be retaken if necessary, while still in the field and to achieve the desired result, making it possible to capture a memorable image of even short-lived scenes.

Like many worthwhile endeavors, photography teaches patience and perseverance, and requires continual improvements in knowledge and skill to first become proficient, and then improve, at it. Although you may not become the next Ansel Adams, photography is a pursuit that can be enjoyable, educational, and rewarding. Digital photography offers a blend of technology, art, creativity, and nearly unlimited experiences to provide a lifetime of rewards to those who make the effort to attempt and pursue it. It is an ideal learning activity, especially since it can lead you to places you might not otherwise explore. And best of all, digital photography is something that you can easily share with others.
